General laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery, is a surgical technique that uses small incisions and specialized instruments to perform various procedures inside the abdominal cavity. In traditional open surgery, a large incision is made to access the surgical site, whereas in laparoscopic surgery, several small incisions are made, and a trocar is inserted through each incision to create a pathway for the laparoscope and other surgical instruments.
Reduced trauma and scarring: The small incisions result in less tissue damage and scarring,
leading to a faster recovery and less post-operative pain.
Shorter hospital stay: Patients usually spend less time in the hospital compared to open
surgery.
Faster recovery: Due to the smaller incisions and reduced tissue trauma, patients can
often return to normal activities more quickly.
Less blood loss: Laparoscopic surgery typically involves less blood loss compared to
open surgery.
Improved visualization: The laparoscope provides a magnified and detailed view of the
surgical area, allowing for better precision during the procedure.
